Not everyone opening this app wants the same thing, and pretending otherwise leads to plans that don't stick. There are three honest goals, and the right one is the one you'll actually follow.
Quit for good
Best when: cannabis is costing you more than it gives — sleep, money, motivation, relationships, or just the sense that you'd rather not need it. Or when you've tried moderating before and it always drifts back up.
What it looks like: a set quit date, then zero. The first week is the hard part (see why days 3 to 6 are the hardest); after that it's mostly about handling old triggers as they come up.
Where it fails: going cold turkey with no plan for the evening routine that used to end with using. The gap is real and needs filling with something, not just willpower.
Tolerance break
Best when: you don't want to stop permanently, but the amount you need to feel anything has crept up, the high isn't what it was, or you just want to prove to yourself you can go without.
What it looks like: a finite break — commonly two to four weeks — with a decision point at the end. Most of the withdrawal (sleep, irritability, appetite) resolves inside that window, so you get through the worst of it and come out the other side with a real choice: resume at a lower baseline, extend the break, or find that you'd rather stay off.
Where it fails: treating it as "quitting but I'm allowed to fail." A tolerance break works because it has a defined end you're moving toward, not because it's easier.
Cut down
Best when: full abstinence isn't the goal and isn't realistic for you right now, but the current level clearly isn't working — you're using more than you want to, earlier in the day than you want to, or spending more than you want to.
What it looks like: a planned step-down. Fewer sessions per week, or a later start time each day, reduced on a schedule rather than by willpower in the moment. This app's plan can hold that schedule for you so each day has a clear target instead of a vague intention.
Where it fails: "cutting down" with no number attached. Without a specific target for the week, use quietly returns to baseline within a month.
You can change your mind
Plenty of people start with a tolerance break and decide partway through to just keep going. Plenty start trying to quit, find it's too much right now, and switch to cutting down as a real step forward rather than a defeat. Picking a goal isn't a vow — it's just choosing which plan the app runs for you today.
